Laurence Lovat is Professor of Gastroenterology and Biophotonics at University College London. He spent seven years as the Clinical Director of the UCL WEISS Centre (now known as the Hawkes Institute), an interdisciplinary initiative which brings engineers and clinical researchers together to accelerate the development of new medical technology into clinical practice.
Professor Lovat’s research is at the forefront of developing optical artificial intelligence (AI) tools to prevent oesophageal and colon cancer. He also leads a UK National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) programme focused on using AI to reduce the airborne transmission of diseases in hospital settings.
In addition to his academic and research roles, Professor Lovat directs the London Gastroenterology Centre, where a team of specialist consultants provides expert care for a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions across multiple London locations. The centre is committed to delivering a world-class service for all luminal gastrointestinal conditions.
