CBD is taking the world by storm, and with a list of CBD products hitting the shelves, introducing CBD to your routine has never been easier.

At the top of the list, CBD-infused coffee stands out as a true crowd-pleaser. Not only does it offer a convenient way to incorporate CBD into your daily routine, but it also satisfies your taste buds. We can’t think of a better way to take CBD than with your morning cuppa!

But what’s the buzz about CBD coffee? If you’re eager to dive deeper into its wonders, you've landed in the perfect spot. With the team at Cheerful Buddha, we’ll tell you all you need to know about CBD coffee.

So, grab a cup of your favourite brew and let's embark on this CBD-infused journey together.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD)is a chemical found in the cannabis plant. But there’s no need to raise an eyebrow, CBD doesn’t contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) – the psychoactive ingredient that makes you high.1

Without THC, the remaining CBD is legal in the UK. This bi-product can be made chemically, but the most-prized version is 100% hemp-derived, the part of the plant with the least about of THC.3

What is CBD coffee?

CBD drinks are proving increasingly popular, but CBD coffee is the one to watch.

In the UK, approximately 98 million cups of coffee are consumed every day!4  So, it’s fair to say that we’re a nation that loves a warming cup of coffee. But what is CBD coffee, and how does it work?

Simply put, CBD coffee – or cannabinoid-infused coffee – is coffee that also contains CBD. The best forms of CBD coffee contain coffee that is precision-infused at the point of roast with CBD to ensure each blend contains all that CBD has to offer. Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) coconut oil is also added, which brings its own properties while giving CBD a fresher and more enjoyable taste.

How to make CBD coffee

If you know how to brew a cup of coffee, you know how to make CBD coffee.

You can enjoy it as an espresso hit, as a filter coffee, in a cafetière, an AeroPress, or as a Turkish coffee – the list goes on. Just brew as you usually would and enjoy your favourite drink with added CBD benefits.

How much CBD coffee can you drink?

Many factors affect how much CBD you should take, and therefore how much CBD coffee you can drink daily.

It’s really important that before you introduce any form of CBD into your routine, you check with your GP that it’s safe for you to do so. CBD isn’t suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, prospective parents trying for a baby or people taking medication.

In 2023, the UK Food Standards Agency (FSA) set an acceptable daily amount of CBD per day 0.15mg of 98% pure CBD per kilogram of body weight. This equates to 10mg of CBD per day for a healthy adult weighing 70kg – if you weigh less than 70kg you should consume less CBD.

Once you’ve figured out how much CBD you can take per day based on your body weight, you can tailor the amount of CBD coffee you drink. Whether that’s just a small cup, or even half a cup a day.

You don’t want to drink too much coffee each day either! Everyone metabolises coffee differently though, so you might find that just one cup does the trick.6

CBD oil or CBD-infused coffee?

If you’ve decided that you want to start having a measured dose of CBD oil each day, but are wondering how to take it, a great option is to add your dose of oil to your coffee. A few drops of delicious CBD oil in coffee will add an excellent flavour twist to your brew.

On the other hand, if you choose a CBD-infused coffee, you won’t get any oils floating on the top, nor will you have the hassle or flavour-altering issues of adding oil separately. At the end of the day, it’s up to you.
