About Valerie
Valerie Stark McQuillan is a neuroscientist with a keen interest in the relationship between the gut-brain axis and its influence on mood, cognition, and personality traits. She holds Master of Science in Neuroscience, providing her with a solid foundation in understanding the complexities of brain function and its connection to overall mental wellbeing.
In addition to her academic achievements, Valerie is a certified yoga teacher (EYT), meditation instructor, and BAMBA registered practitioner of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and MBCT-D, which focuses on mindfulness techniques to support individuals experiencing depression. These certifications enable her to take a holistic approach to her work, combining scientific research with evidence-based mindfulness practices to promote mental health.
In her role as Director and Formulator at Novomins, Valerie concentrates on developing innovative, science-backed health products aimed at improving both physical and psychological wellbeing. Her primary area of expertise lies in exploring the intricate relationship between the gut microbiome and mental health. She examines how the composition of the microbiome impacts mood, emotional regulation, and personality traits.
