She also recommends eating smaller, more frequent meals to avoid putting extra pressure on your stomach and letting in some fresh air by opening a window or stepping outside if you can. Even simple distractions, like putting on your favourite playlist or watching a feel-good film, can help shift your focus and take the edge off that queasy feeling. “It’s just as important to be mindful of what might make things worse”, Heeral adds. “Strong cooking smells, greasy or fried foods, eating too quickly, drinking large amounts with meals, lying down straight after eating and wearing tight clothing around your stomach can all make nausea worse, so keeping things light and gentle can really help your body settle.”
