Once something not to be discussed; now a hot topic at brunches and on social media among some of our favourite celebrities. The normalisation of the menopause has helped women all over the UK. And with this has come new products on the market not to be ignored. Let’s take a look at our top picks to help you keep feeling like yourself – plus insight from our science specialist Heeral Tomlinson.

What’s menopause?

Put simply, it’s the stage in life when your periods have stopped for 12 months or more. You can also experience signs of menopause for a few years before your periods stop, which is known as perimenopause. This stage usually begins in your late 30s to early 40s, lasts on average seven to eight years, and can continue anywhere from five to 15 years,” explains Heeral. Like anything, your experience of menopause will probably be different from your friends, so if something doesn’t feel right it’s best to speak to a GP.

There are eight common menopause symptoms that are widely known (hot flasheshair thinning, night sweats etc.), but there are dozens more, from changes in libido to recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and joint pain.2

And all before midday...

Menopause products FAQs

What products can help support me during menopause?

Products that support your wider wellbeing can be helpful during menopause, depending on what you’re looking to support. This could include supplements for bone health, protein or nutrition powders, hair and body oils or skincare, the right choice will depend on your goals.

Do menopause supplements really work?

Menopause supplements can be a useful part of your daily routine, but they’re not a cure-all. Some are designed to support areas that you are looking to give a bit of TLC during menopause such as bones, energy or general nutrition. Always read the label, follow the recommended dose and speak to a GP, pharmacist or healthcare professional if you’re taking medication or have a medical condition.

How do I know which menopause products are right for me?

Start by thinking about the areas of your lifestyle you’re looking for support with such as skin, hair, joints or bone health. The key is to find the right products for your needs and fit seamlessly into your routine. If symptoms are affecting your day-to-day life or you’re unsure what’s suitable, it’s worth getting advice from a healthcare professional.

The final say

Just as everyone’s menopause is different, these products may work differently for everyone. But we hope that popping them into your bag or adding them to your daily routine helps make things a little easier when you need it. But remember: “not all supplements are suitable for everyone,” says Heeral. “Speak to a healthcare professional before starting new supplements, especially if you’re on medication or have health conditions.

“And if symptoms affect your quality of life, options like HRT may be considered. Always discuss with your GP to weigh the benefits and risks.” Now you’ve got your meno must-haves in hand, you might be looking for a menopause skincare routine or wondering how sex during the menopause might change...
